Heavy footsteps could be heard down the halls of the private facility that was hidden underground. The Winter Soldier was given one mission and that was to kidnap two important scientists who held information on a serum that could have Hydra come out of the shadows and take control again once and for all.

The Winter Soldier carried his gun in hand, listening for the faintest of sounds that could indicate that someone was nearby. The lights then switched off and he broke into a sprint. Someone had found out that he had entered the building, but how?

“Sorry, Soldier,” came your voice over the intercom of the building. “Someone had found me in the main computer control room and by accident, set off the alarm.”

He tried not to sigh and roll his eyes.

Why oh why did his boss insist that you be brought to this mission? He honestly had no clue what your purpose in this was. As far as he could tell, your combat skills weren’t nearly as good enough as his and you were more than once the person in the operation who screwed everything up.

As he ran down the halls, the Winter Soldier dodged any traps that had been set up in the halls. Secret compartments that had been hidden in the walls slid up to reveal gas leaking out into the room. No doubt that one whiff of that and he’d either pass out or be a goner. Running faster down the hall, the Winter Soldier held his breath and quickly reached for his gas mask. After applying it, he took out his gun when two security guards came running after him with their masks on as well.

He shot one in the head on sight, and quickly turned to bash the back of the skull of the other man with the butt of his gun and kicked him down to the ground. His foot stomped on his back, a cracking sound being heard, before he shot him in the head as well. More guards began to run towards him except this time they were armed.

Everything was a piece of cake to him.

He shot three of them down with ease and twisted the arm of another’s behind his back until he heard a satisfy crack and a cry of pain. The Winter Soldier grabbed another’s head and smashed it against the wall, blood painting the white wall. He kicked another one so hard, that he crashed through one of the doors of the hall.

“Might I just say that I love man who can fight so good and wear all black as well?” your voice sighed over the intercom. “It’s sexy.”

The Winter turned to look for the nearest camera, flipping the bird, knowing that you’d had seen.

“Meanie,” you had said right after.

He rolled his eyes, turning his attention back to the two remaining men. One was a guy who was perhaps twice his size with a buzzcut and smokey black eyes. The other, was about the Winter Soldier’s own height with black hair and dark brown eyes. It was the brown eyed man who had tried to attack first. He tried to shoot the Winter Soldier but had his gun ripped away from his hands right when he lifted it. The Winter Soldier wasted no time in shooting him several times until his body fell lifeless onto the ground.

The man with the buzzcut was now nervous. He too, tried to shoot the Winter Soldier down only to have his gun twisted out of his hand. Hissing with pain, he used his free hand to try to punch him, only to be stopped right away. His hand didn’t even touch the Winter Soldier’s cheek before he grabbed his hand and forced it upwards, cracking his wrist. The man screamed in pain, now falling to his knees. He struggled to fight back but it was no use.

“That looked like it hurt,” you seethed.

The Winter Soldier ignored your little comment and finished the job by whipping out his gun and shooting the man's brains out. The gas had stopped leaking into the room but instead a new trap popped up. This time, red lasers moving in all directions appeared. He was about to slip through them when suddenly, a metal door from each side of the hall slid down from the ceiling.

“Oh shit,” came your panicked voice over the intercom.

He did not take this as a good sign.

He quickly turned around, using his metal arm to try and smash the door down. The wall appeared to be three feet thick since it was taking him longer than he thought it would to break down the door. The lasers then started moving towards him in the form of a grid. If they hit him, he would die. He started to punch the wall harder and faster. The metal appeared to be thinning and he could feel that he was close to breaking it. The lasers were coming close however and he was running out of time.

Just when he thought the lasers would hit him, they stopped and the walls were brought back up. He looked to one of the security camera’s confused, raising an eyebrow.

“I’m not useless you know,” you said deadpanned.

He cocked his head to the side as if to say, “Really?” and shrugged, walking off and going to continue the mission.

“Hey Raccoon Eyes,” came your voice, making him twitch. “The scientists are hiding on the fourth level in the lab with all the human experiments. You’re going the wrong way.”

And once again, he flipped you the bird.

The mission was completed on schedule. It was just a quarter to midnight and the helicopter would be picking him and you up soon. He was on the roof of the building with you by his side and he noticed that you were on your phone.

“What?” you said when you saw that he was looking at you. “You’re not exactly much of a talker. The internet talks to me more than you.”

“....Whatever.”

“Wow!” you gasped. “He actually speaks!”

He shot you a look, and his hand almost went for the gun in his holster but he knew that he would be given shock therapy again if he killed you. He did not want to go through that again. He clenched his jaw and bit back his annoyance.

“You know, you don’t have to be so secluded,” you said to him. “It’s okay to talk to people about things. I do it all the time with you.”

“Unfortunately.”

Silence then finally filled the air. He was happy that you had finally stopped talking to him. Even the scientists who were tied up and gagged had stopped squealing. It was then that he was able to observe his surroundings. You were both in the middle of a forest that had pine trees and oak trees everywhere. All that could be heard was the chirping of crickets. The starry night above made everything feel so...peaceful. That was something he hadn’t felt in the longest of times.

“I like the night, do you?” you suddenly asked.

Cue him sighing here.

And here we go again, he thought bitterly.

He merely nodded, not wanting to explain himself. Thankfully, you took the answer. The helicopter came into view and you both put black bags over the scientists heads, making sure that they wouldn’t be able to see anything on the ride back to the Hydra base.

“Hey….Soldier?” you asked curiously. “Do you ever feel alone? Like we’re just puppets to someone’s sick game?”

The ladder from the helicopter dropped, him taking it and climbing on with one scientist thrown over his back.

He hoped the sound of the chopper drowned out his whisper of, “All the time.”

But you had heard every word.

♣♣♣Extended Ending♣♣♣

The Winter Soldier walked through the Captain America museum where he came face to face—with himself. He couldn’t believe that this person known as “Bucky Barnes” was him. Yet there was his own face staring right back at him.

Ever since the battle on the SHIELD hellicarrier with Captain America, who actually turned out to be his old friend Steve, the Winter Soldier—actually Bucky, had no idea who he was anymore. His memories were coming back to him in small fragments. Sometimes he would see something in a dream that would be a clue to his past life or sometimes he would see something in the real world that reminded him of something.

Still, Bucky was confused. Never before had he felt so alone.

He didn’t know what his purpose in his life was anymore. He had come to this museum to find out who he once was. Reading all these things about himself felt odd. He wished that someone could help him on this journey, help him find out what had happened to him and who had stolen his life.

But it looked like he was all alone.

“Wow you looked even more handsome back in the war.”

“Son of a…” Bucky hissed underneath his breath.

He turned slowly, to see you standing right next to him with your signature smirk on your lips. You looked up at him, your (e/c) eyes looking up into his blue one’s innocently.

“Miss me?” you mused.

After Hydra was destroyed, Bucky assumed that you had been killed in action. Looks like that wasn’t the case. You must have somehow escaped.

“How’d you survive?” he asked curiously.

“This puppet finally cut her strings.”

He thought back to the “conversation” he had with you on the roof of that mission, wondering if he had done the same. Had he really broke free of his obedient soldier ways? Or was the reason why he was standing here because he had no one to take orders from? Bucky wasn’t too sure if he wanted to know the answer.

“So this is you, huh?” you motioned to the holographic picture of him.

“Yeah…”

You placed your hand on his shoulder. “Tell me...what’s your name? I never learned it. They just told me to call you the Winter Soldier.”

He tensed up.

“It’s….it’s James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes,” he finally said.

His own name rolling off his tongue felt strange to him yet familiar.

“Bucky?” you grinned. “I like the sound of that, Soldier.”

It was awkward at first, but Bucky managed to smile back at you. It was a weak smile but a smile nonetheless.

“So you need to find out who you are, right?” you asked, turning so that you were side by side with him now.

“I need to,” he nodded. “I need to find out what my life was like and who was responsible to doing this to me.”

“I can help!” you beamed. “I’m the best hacker there is.”

He winced at your cheerful voice and tried to say no to you but you wouldn’t take no as an answer.

“Look Bucky, we both know that I’m helping you. So suck it up, will ya?”

“Fine,” he sighed.

He looked down at your smiling face, thinking that maybe he wasn’t going to be alone afterall.
You guys, I just can't XD

Me and my friends were talking earlier about places we visited and friend Alex tells me that going to the Parthenon in Greece isn't worth it because you could slip and fall to your death at any time.

Then, she said how going without sunglasses is a bad idea.

Me: Well then maybe I'll just rim my eyes with black.

I thought of Bucky and couldn't stop laughing XD

When I wrote the, "Raccoon Eyes" line, I couldn't stop giggling.

Shit.

Anyways, thank you Gorillaz for your amazing song, "All Alone". It inspired me to write this. If you think I should put a filter up, let me know.

I hope you all enjoyed!

ALSO

This was all basically in Bucky's POV when he was brainwashed and the Winter Soldier. He's not a people person everyone. That's why he finds you/reader so annoying. I didn't want to describe the reader's tone after everything she said, but she really was just teasing with him. Like she wasn't bouncing around like a chipmunk all the time. She was trying to get Bucky to lighten up. I hope this clears any confusion.

Beyond adorable. I loved it almost too much. I have a major crush on the handsome as hell brunette Soldier and you have an amazing talent for writing these stories. I severely loved it. BTW I also love your cute icon picture you used for your profile. I kinda like anime a little bit.
