I Did It For Her (LokixReader One-Shot)

Even at night the city of Asgard sparkled.

Thor had once said that it was similar to a Midgardian city called New York. When you saw a picture of the place, you knew it was nothing compared to Asgard. 

Looking above at the stars and velvet red and silken purple galaxies that lay beyond, you couldn't help but feel.....empty. Glancing at your bed that you had once shared with someone, you realized why.

It has been so long since you had last seen your neglected Prince. Once he had learned about his true past, he was never the same again. He became cold and distant. Sometimes he was like that with you. It saddened you to think that this was who he was now. But you still had hope that he would be his old self again. 

But when you had received news from Thor that Loki had left Asgard in pursuit of conquering Midgard, your heart fell. You didn't know what to do. So all you could do was fake happiness and try to pull through for the both of you. 

There was a knock on your door followed by Thor coming in. By the facial expression he wore, you expected to hear bad news.

"Loki has returned to Asgard," He told you. You immediately felt relieved. "However, he is in prison now and will most likely be left there for all eternity." 

You gasped, covering your mouth with your hand as a sob escaped your lips.

"No...." You breathed.

He nodded, his eyes reflecting the same pain you felt. "It is true, (Name). I'm sorry that things ended this way."

There was a moment of silence before you asked, "May I see him...?"

"Of course."

He led you to the prison, stopping at the gates. Apparently he didn't want to see Loki yet. You gave him your thanks and he left, leaving you alone with nothing but guards and prisoners. You made your way to Loki's cell.

When you saw him, your entire body shook. He looked just like he had before he left. He wore the same green and gold armor, he had the same black slicked back hair, the same sparkling emerald eyes and the same mischievous smile. But he was different. Something about him was different. 

"Loki?" You softly called out to him.

"It's been a long time, hasn't it (Name)?" He grinned, sitting on the floor across from you. "Tell me, how have you been?" 

"How have I been?" You blinked. "Loki you've been gone for months! I may have looked alright on the outside but on the inside....I've been dying to see you again."

He pursed his lips. "Do you realize how pathetic you sound?"

"What....?" 

He stood up abruptly and with a sneer said, "Honestly (Name) are you so useless and weak without me? Couldn't have just moved on those past months?"

"But I thought-" You whispered, tears strolling down your cheeks.

He cut you off. "Thought what? That I loved you? Please don't think of such foolish things," He looked at you with disgust. He scrunched up his nose and turned away from you. "Ugh just leave my sight already."

You tried to process what had just happened. Was everything before a lie? Did he really not love you? Your bottom lip quivered. 

With a shaky sob you whispered, "As you wish my Prince."

And just like that you were gone.

"You have broken her heart, are you happy now?" Thor asked his brother with a growl.

Loki grinned. "Who (Name)? It's not my problem that all she can do is cry."

"Enough with the illusion Loki!" Thor's voice thundered. 

Within a blink of an eye, a green aura formed around Loki revealing his true nature. His hair was messy, his sparkling emerald eyes now blood shot from crying, bags underneath his eyes. If you had stayed and tried to find out what was wrong, you would've seen that this is why he was different. The Prince had been a wreck without you as well. He wanted to tell you sweet nothings but he knew it wouldn't be enough to comfort you.

"Always using your words to hurt others and for what?" Thor grunted. "To save your pride?"

He knew that he was to be locked in prison forever. So why give you false hope? He wanted you to move on and live a happy life. For who could love someone who can never be hugged or kissed back by the one they loved?

"I didn't do it for me," He whispered softly. "I did it for her."
